Bill Maher's closing remarks on Friday night's Real Time centered on the similarities between sidewalk psychics, religion, and the politics of the GOP. For Maher, they're all examples of the sunk cost fallacy, the idea that “the more you sink money into something, the more you have to believe it” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Said Maher:
Now I'm not saying Republicans are like psychics because psychics are right sometime. Whereas trickle down economics has never been right, and yet Republican voters keep buying into it even though that girlfriend has been dead since the 80s.

Maher went on to take Republicans like Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham, John Boehner, Tom Coburn, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum to task for their past bulls–t statements that riled up gullible voters.
“You know for a party that's so anti-gay, they sure pull a lot of stuff out of their ass,” quipped Maher.
