An actor on English soap opera Eastenders was reportedly cut from a quiz segment on the BBC telethon ‘Children In Need' following a gay joke, according to Yahoo!
Shane Ritchie is alleged to have said “Hurry up! Last person in is gay” while he and members of reformed 90s pop band S Club 7 were trying to fit into an elevator together.
S Club 7 band member Jon Lee came out in 2010.
Following the remark, three members of the band are thought to have refused to appear alongside Ritchie.
A source close to the actor confirmed that Ritchie made the joke but did not mean it in an offensive manner.
Back in January, a kiss between two gay characters on Eastenders led to an outburst of homophobic comments on social media. In April, the soap's resident beefcake Ben Hardy appeared on the cover of Attitude.
