Late night hosts, like many of us, were shaken by the death of Joan Rivers yesterday. Rivers herself was a guest on all of them and permanent guest host on The Tonight Show for many years until during a highly-publicized feud with Johnny Carson she launched her own show.
While David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Craig Ferguson pointed out that Rivers was a pioneer for women in the male field of comedy, nowhere is that more obvious than in the slate of current hosts, none of whom (save Chelsea Handler, who is off to Netflix) are female.
