Interesting piece in USA Today regarding the Bree and Andrew van de Kamp story arc in Desperate Housewives. Both Marc Cherry and Marcia Cross have some thoughts to impart regarding the way Bree's character has developed.
Cherry modeled Bree after his own mother and the TV character will repeat lines the creator heard uttered by Martha Cherry when he came out at age 31: “The word's not ‘gay,' it's ‘sodomy'!” And: “You won't be going to heaven!” Yet Cross' own thoughts on the matter are wildly different. When asked how she'd react if she had a gay son, she says, “I wouldn't care at all. I'll be lucky to have a child. May they be whatever they want to be.” It's great to see an article like this in USA Today where mothers across the heartland can see it.
