Some sad news to report. I learned today that our black lab Carter, who lived in Montana with my parents, was struck and killed by a neighbor's car. My mother was taking my three-year-old nephew River for a walk with Carter up the hill outside their home. As Carter playfully took off up the hill, my mother heard the accident, ran to catch up, and held Carter as he took his last breaths and a final frightened look into her eyes. He was never very “car smart” as my mother put it, never aware of the danger they posed. It's funny how things can transpire so suddenly. Truly a best friend and confidant, Carter was a good dog. I will miss him.
