The 2019 Oscar Nominations have been announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
The Favourite and Roma lead the nominations field with 10 each. A Star is Born received 8 nominations.
Rami Malek picked up a Best Actor nomination for his role as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Melissa McCarthy was nominated for her role as a Jewish lesbian writer in Can You Ever Forgive Me? Out co-screenwriter Jeff Whitty (who also won a Tony for penning the book for Avenue Q) also received a nomination for Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
Black Panther, which won nominations for best costume design, production design, sound editing, sound mixing, original score and original song, is also the first comic book/superhero film to earn a nomination for Best Picture.
Among those snubbed by the Academy were Bradley Cooper for Best Director for A Star is Born, Barry Jenkins for Best Director for If Beale Street Could Talk, Emily Blunt for Best Actress for Mary Poppins or A Quiet Place, Timothee Chalamet for Beautiful Boy, Mister Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor?, Peter Farrelly for Green Book, and Ryan Coogler for Black Panther.
The Oscars take place on February 24. The show still has no official host following Kevin Hart's early December departure over his past homophobic statements.
